Jack the Skinner was a rich man. He had a passport, money to buy airline tickets and could even afford to stay in hotels, and a complete and shiny identification id. He knew a little bit of psychology and anti-tracing, because he was repeatedly ahead of the FBI and striking and winning. He was a sociopathic psychopath who killed for fun, and made his goal to skin his victims, so he also had a pair of dexterous hands; that were able to pull human skin from the human body without any damage. He even knew a little bit of pharmacology, otherwise there was no way to make each victim die fifteen minutes after skinning.
Intelligent, strong, highly skilled in disguise, and ruthless; he was an extremely dangerous guy.
Mo Qianren circled the first suspect in Mu Ru Lan’s narrative, McKee. He had a pair of dexterous hands and was even able to use a Swiss Army knife to peel off the bark of a tree in a short period of time. Most importantly, he came from the Swiss side, supposedly because he thought that the water was better over here, so he had arrived here recently.
Jack had informed that he was going to Geneva in Switzerland, in order to find the prey that he had picked out. Afterwards, he would be hunting and skinning them. The special thing was that his destination was only a lake away from the town of Evian, the border between Switzerland and France, the blurred state. Mo Qianren didn’t think he wouldn’t cross the border as the other party was not a decent gentleman.
The second suspect was Shacknor. A large number of flyers asking for personal information was the fastest and easiest way to get someone’s phone number, and it just so happened that the other party had been handing out flyers at the hotel where Mu Rulan was staying. He came to this hotel often as well; his objectives were quite clear.
There was also the young painter, but he wasn’t as suspicious as the others. Thin and slender, pretty and soft, like a white peacock. Those hands looked like they were made for holding a paintbrush, and he didn’t seem to press for Mu Rulan’s number. His reason for asking for her number wasn’t problematic at all, but he would still be included in the list of suspects.
Of course, these suspects were only listed according to Mu Rulan’s impression of those who had asked for her phone number. There could still be many continuations. For example, Shacknor’s flyers could have been passed through the hands of many other people, of which there are many that she isn’t aware of.
Mo Qianren changed into the clothes Mu Rulan bought for him, and received a call from the FBI. They had already contacted the police on both the French and Swiss sides. They’d do their best to help with Mo Qianren’s needs, especially with the frequent cases of missing children on the French side. They had heard that Mo Qianren was here, and hoped that he could help solve the cases. There were already many mothers that had broken down because of the loss of their children.
“Will you agree?” Mu Rulan walked down the stairs in front of Mo Qianren and turned her head around, asking him.
“It depends. Watch your step.” Mo Qianren said as he took care not to bump his head on anything again.
Mu Rulan nodded; right now, he wanted to catch Jack the Skinner, who had ran all the way over here from the United States.
Shu Min and Mina, who were waiting downstairs to go play with Mu Rulan, were stunned when they turned their heads and saw Mu Rulan and Mo Qianren coming down
Mina stood up and stared at Mo Qianren with wide eyes. “Mr. Mo-mo-mo-mo? How come you’re here? And… You, you two…..?”
Shu Min sat still and didn’t move, her gaze falling on Mo Qianren for a while before turning to Mu Rulan and smiling. It didn’t seem that she had any problems with it. Her eyes were a bit difficult to decipher, making it hard to see what she was thinking.
“We had some business to discuss.” Mo Qianren indifferently replied to Mina with those few words, faintly sweeping a glance over her. Mina was full of doubts but suddenly closed her mouth and went silent, not daring to ask more. Obviously, there wasn’t anything for her to be afraid of, but she couldn’t help but feel some reverence.
Mu Rulan and Mo Qianren sat at the table next to Shu Min and Mina. When they finished ordering, Shu Min’s cold voice rang out. “Mr. Mo, about your business that you had to discuss. Did it involve the class president?”
Mo Qianren swept a glance over Shu Min. It seemed like he was able to see through all of her illusions, causing Shu Min’s expression to change for a moment, but she was forced to keep staring at his eyes.
“Pretty much.” Mo Qianren averted his gaze first, as indifferent as he had been when he first looked over.
The corner of Shu Min’s mouth pulled up into a small arc, quite coldly. “Can you say what’s up?”
“I don’t think I have the need to tell you anything.” Mo Qianren coldly replied without even raising his head. Seriously, it was true that he not only had to be on guard towards men, but towards women as well.
On the other hand, Mina was completely unable to intervene. She could only feel the inexplicable smoke from them. She looked over at Mu Rulan, who was staring at her phone as if she was in a trance. “What are you looking at?”
“What is it?” Mu Rulan looked up, smiling and asked Mina, smoothly sliding her phone into her pocket.
Mina wasn’t able to see anything, and diverted her thoughts without thinking too much about it. “Actually, I wanted to ask you. Mr. Mo is here, so, are you going to go out with us?” Mina couldn’t help but feel a bit torn. She felt that Mu Rulan and Mo Qianren were quite a good match, and this kind of teacher-student love was actually quite romantic. The problem was, that other people also seemed to be a good choice, such as Duan Yao. At least Duan Yao would be better than an illegitimate son of a down and out family.
However, more than anything else, she cared about Mu Rulan’s old feelings. This was really messy, alas.
“Aren’t you going to Shacknor’s house for dinner?”
“Aiya, he didn’t even invite me.” Mina squirmed a little. Although Shu Min had requested for him to do that, she also needed Shacknor’s invitation to go. Otherwise, how unreserved would she be? The other party may think that she’s a casual person or a foreigner that’s indifferent to some things, but she was a traditional woman.
Speak of the devil, Shacknor entered the hotel in a casual black suit. He greeted the people he knew with a big smile. “Hey! Little Jenny, Lan, Mina…”
Mu Ru Lan noticed that Shacknor’s sight stilled a little when he noticed Mo Qianren, and the smile on his face was also somewhat forced because he saw a rather special stranger, which was normal. Compared to Mu Ru Lan’s gentle, pure white and angel-like special aura that made people comfortable and feel good, Mo Qianren’s aura was cold and indifferent like a king, which made people not dare to take the slightest overstep.
Mo Qianren slowly turned around to look at Shacknor. The pair of eyes that even death row inmates didn’t dare to look at fell on him, immediately making Shacknor’s muscles tighten up. With a bit of confusion he asked, “… I’m Shacknor Sandy, you are…?”
“Amon.” Mo Qianren looked at Shacknor, and muttered.
Shacknor nodded a little uncomfortably and noticed little Jenny was there. He immediately bent down and picked her up, using this to divert away Mo Qianren’s attention.
Mu Rulan retracted her gaze from Sharknor, now interested in the name of Mo Qianren. Amon…… is the name of the Egyptian god who was worshipped as the king of the gods. It was unexpectedly suitable for him; compared to the low-profile Qianren, the high-profile Amon seemed to suit him more.
“Mr. Sandy is an American?” Mo Qianren put down his knife and fork and asked in a light voice.
Shacknor originally wanted to avoid Mo Qianren, but did not expect him to talk to him. On one hand, he was flattered, and felt genuine surprise, but he didn’t feel like he was talking to an ordinary person. It felt like he was getting interrogated; a careless slip may lead him to leaking all of his secrets.
“That’s, that’s not it, I’m French.”
“Do you travel often?”
“Not, not often… Mina and little Jenny, let’s go to my house, how about I treat you two to a nice lunch at noon?”
Mu Rulan quietly left the table by herself.
She walked out of the hotel and followed the location sent to her on her cell phone. Her lips were hooked in a smile and she looked like she was in such a good mood that even the people she rubbed shoulders with felt their moods soar.
Jack, Jack the Skinner, skinned Jack the Skinner…
Hehe, she was really looking forward to it. However, was it really okay to set the location in a hotel? If he wanted to kill her, or she wanted to kill him, it wouldn’t be good for there to be surveillance cameras, huh? Did the other side have a trick up their sleeve? Well, it was pretty likely; after all, it was a serial killer that had played the FBI like a bunch of fools in the US.
Her mouth curled in a smile, her dark, ponytailed hair swaying slightly as she walked.
Ou Yachen, dressed fresh and bright, stood in front of the door of room 303. She was full of joy and knocked on the door, but did not get any response. She knocked again, but still did not get a response. ‘Did he go out?’ Ou Yachen thought and took out her cell phone to call the other party, but suddenly paused midway. This didn’t seem to be a good course of action; they had just met, and this made her come off as very clingy and controlling. This wasn’t good…
She thought for a bit, beamed, then Ou Yachen thought for a bit then beamed, and walked back to her room to pick up her bag with the intention of looking for Mu Rulan. The artist gentleman seemed to have finished the painting and they could go and enjoy the masterpiece.
Mu Rulan stood at the elevator door waiting for the elevator. Not long after, with a ding, the elevator door opened. Mu Rulan walked in, and pressed the button to the fifth floor, and the elevator door slowly closed as the opposite elevator door happened to open, and Ou Yachen, carrying her bag, strode out of the hotel.
The elevator went straight up to the fifth floor. The fifth floor seemed to be special; the air was cold and freezing, and there is no one living there. Some of the walls weren’t even decorated. It seemed that the Evian Hotel has added a layer on top of the original, but it wasn’t finished yet, so it wasn’t open to visitors for now.
The surrounding area was very quiet. The floor carpet wasn’t properly laid down, and every step made a small sound. There weren’t any staff working, so the lights in the corridor weren’t on. It seemed very gloomy.
“Hello?” Mu Rulan shouted, and some echoes lingered in her ears.
The phone vibrated again, and it was the same number with no caller ID. The person on the other side reverted to how they were from the start; silent. Mu Rulan hung up and it rang again not long after, weirdly.
“Looks like someone likes to play pranks.” Mu Rulan smiled as she slowly moved along the gray corridor. As she passed the first room, Mu Rulan glanced at the door handle, then reached out and touched it, paused for a bit, and then turned it.
What she saw was an empty room, with nothing but constantly billowing curtains.
Mu Rulan closed the door and walked towards the second and third, which still turned out to be empty, until the fifth room, where Mu Ru Lan saw a shelf placed in the middle of the room with a piece of paper on it.
She looked around, it was empty, there was still nothing but fluttering curtains, and the phone was still ringing. That weird, uncommunicative person.
Mu Ru Lan walked to the shelf, reached out and picked up the paper pressed on it by a small stone with a string of English written on it – “I’m behind you“
Mu Rulan turned around. If normal people saw this kind of note they would immediately be scared to turn back to see, but she was not afraid of death. She was unhurried, elegant and comfortable, even if she was actually standing in front of a tall man wearing a bloody, as if it was freshly peeled, human skin, she didn’t show a single speck of fear.
“Jack?” Mu Ru Lan looked at the man standing just a few centimeters in front of her and said tentatively.
He slightly lowered his head and looked at Mu Rulan, and didn’t speak, only slowly tried to raise his hand to reach out to her, but the next second the action suddenly stopped, and he even jerked his body at once, almost falling to the ground.
“Yeah …… sorry about that, but it’s the only way to keep myself safe.” Mu Rulan smiled gently and said seemingly as if she had just accidentally poured some water at his feet.
However, what happened at this point was that the man wearing the bloody human skin had blood bubbling from his two feet, and there were two long silver spikes through his feet, pinning him to the ground.
“This is a nail shooting machine.” Mu Ru Lan took out the small tool in his hand, smiled and shared it with the other party, “It doesn’t look like much, but its driving force is the same as the nailer in construction sites. Oh, try holding it in your hand, others still think it’s a three-dimensional small wallet, I bought it online. And oh, my nails are coated with anesthesia, so you shouldn’t feel much pain.”
